About Muffins Manzier...

"She was selling her muffins door to door, happened into a music store and said ‘I can sing, but I’ve never listened to the style they call blues’. So we threw her some Robert and some Blind Willie Johnson and showed her the gliding slide of a glass finger and she said ‘Awesome, but maybe I can do it’ & she went away & came back & she could. Later she went away, some say died but I don’t see how that could be (and we were left with memories of a style, Robert’s vocal mannerisms with some non-verbal voice imitations of slide guitar riffs, and this is our try at it); she’s probably wandering somewhere, selling those magnificent muffins door to door, or maybe just giving them away."

Musicians appearing on this project (so far) include Lydia Scott and Cheryl Renee [each playing the role of Muffins Manizer] (vocals), Joe King (vocal, guitars, and bass), Christopher Driscoll (drums), Troy Liston(guitar), Michael Crawley [of Knoxville bands Crawdaddy and (now) McDaddy] (harmonica), Gary "Electric Bopaloo" Dawn (drums)Noah Geronimo Vivian [son of Joe King] (drums), Stumbling Jack Stillwater (bass), Bill Stickers [not the Houston Fictionaire of that name] (drums), and Doctor Five (drums).

Recording so far has been done at Underground Studios, Seymour, TN; Songwriter’s Studio, Knoxville, TN; Chez Truesdell, Knoxville; and ABasement, Knoxville.

Muffins Does Robert is the first of a series of  Upgradeable Music CDs called The Fictionaire Journeys. The working title for the second is Hank Johnson Rides Again, dealing with another (besides Muffins Manizer) semi-mythical figure who heavily influenced Joe King and the Fictionaires with his reworking of country standards (Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, and others) into his unique and sometimes perverse blues mold.
